LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 8, 2012-- Overland Storage (NASDAQ:OVRL), the trusted global provider of effortless data management and data protection solutions across the data lifecycle, today announced that it has installed two SnapServer network attached storage (NAS) systems at assona GmbH. The SnapServer solution from Overland has significantly improved the German Insurance company’s backup and disaster recovery strategy.

assona’s business generates a large number of files, from scanned contracts and insurance policies through to customer claim forms. These files were being stored locally on a Linux server before being backed up to another device based in a data centre in Frankfurt. This proved to be time consuming, hard to manage and difficult to recover data from the remote location.

After researching its options, assona chose two Overland Storage SnapServers. The NAS appliance offers a high performance, scalable platform for storing file and block data that is simple to deploy and manage. With the ability to scale to hundreds of terabytes, the SnapServers have resolved assona’s scalability requirements. The insurance company can now replicate data from its primary onsite systems to the second offsite system, which acts as a remote backup, on a daily basis. This ensures critical data will be recoverable in the event of a disaster or network failure.

Thomas Ettrich, director of system operations at assona, explains: “The benefits of choosing the SnapServer to replace our Linux-based system include its intuitive browser based interface that simplifies administration and access and its ability to take snapshots which reduces the time and space required for backups and replication. This has significantly cut our recovery time to as little as two hours. We are very happy with the SnapServer. It’s easy to use, we have cut costs and with a current capacity of 8TB, there is plenty of room for the company to expand quickly and easily.”

Andy Walsky, VP EMEA Sales, Overland Storage, concluded:” Overland continues to be completely focused on listening to and addressing the specific storage needs of our customers. We are delighted to offer enterprise class storage solutions that can quickly and easily be deployed within existing environments for instant scalability, reliability and significant cost savings.”
